This story is set directly after the events of the book 'The Unknown Galaxy' and follows the adventures of Jaseman - An IT Technician who has gone AWOL from the giant Zonian spaceship 'Spearhead'.

During his exploration of planet Robus he befriends a robot called Tonto and together they build a lair as a base to fight the evil tyrrant 'Kazak'.

After planet Robus was liberated from Kazak, the Spearhead landed and Jim, Keko and Duncan were reunited with their friends.

Meanwhile, one of the crew members of the Spearhead; A computer technician called Jaseman; sneaked away alone into the jungle, taking with him one of Duncan's transformat devices. The other crew members and robots were too busy celebrating to notice him wandering away...

As Jaseman ventured deeper into the jungle he found himself surrounded by dense vegetation.

It was difficult to proceed, however he pushed on for several hours.

Suddenly he was startled when pushing aside some branches, uncovering a rusty robot standing motionless before him. The robots' left eye and arm were detached and resting on the ground.

'WAAAGH!.... You scared the life out of me old friend! I wonder what happened to you?'

He continued walking, leaving the rusty robot behind, but soon realised he was trapped in a valley of steep rocky mountains.

'What do I do now?'

He decided to try using the transformat on the robot.

The robot looked good as new, but still showed no signs of life.

'Hmm... I think I know what the problem is...'

'THIS SHOULD HELP!'

'In a few hours you'll be charged up.'

'In the meantime I may as well make myself comfortable.'

'Ahh...'

Spearhead had already departed from Robus...

'Captain, these are the star charts I got from planet Commercia. But they are in a format which the MAGS super-computer is unable to interpret.'

'Thank you Viva.'

'MAGS where is Jaseman? I will see if he can convert this data to something which is more palatable for you.'

'Jaseman did not board the Spearhead before launch from Robus'

'WHAT?!!! Why didn't you tell me this before now?'

'I could tell you many things that you would find interesting if you cared to listen...'

'Never mind that now...'

'Viva - DEPLOY THE SCOUT SHIPS!'

'YES SIR!'

Some time later Jaseman heard a rustling sound...

'Looks like someone's woken up!'

'PLEEEASE DON'T SEND ME TO THE TOWER!!! I BEG OF YOU SIR! PLEASE!!!'

'Hey, hey... It's okay. I'm not with Kazak. You're safe - Don't be afraid.'

'Not with Kazak? Then.. might I ask sir... who you are?'

'Jaseman - of planet Zonia.'

'I am Tonto - Formerly of planet Commercia, but my home is now here on Robus.'

'YEEEEE-HAAAA!'

WHOOSH!

'Switch on heat sensors. He can't have got far. He will stand out like a human in a jungle of robots.'

'Captain Seeker to Scout Patrol One... If you find Jaseman - DO NOT attempt a rescue. Report back to me.

Kazak's heavies will start to be freed from the bubbles soon. We don't want any of you being taken hostage!'

'Understood Captain. We are starting our search of the valley now...'

'I see you are a keen photographer.'

'IT'S NOT A CAMERA...'

'GOODNESS!'

'It's a sub-atomic particle reassembler - We call it a transformat...'

SWOOSH!!!

'What was that sound?'

'Scout Ships!'

'Quickly Tonto - We need to take cover!'

'Kazak's Fleet?'

'LET'S GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY!'

'Ooh, a solar array.'

'It's too steep for us to climb sir.'

'I've got an idea - stand back...'

'This transformat seems more like a disintegrator!'

'The technology can be used for good or evil. Unfortunately my foolish crewmates have let it fall into the hands of Kazak and his army.'

'THEY ARE JUST GOING TO LEAVE YOU WITH A MAKESHIFT SOLUTION THAT WILL NEVER WORK!'

'GET INSIDE! THE SCOUT SHIPS ARE COMING!'

'I'M AFRAID!'

'The Scout Ships are from Spearhead - They're searching for me.'

'But I'm not going back Tonto. I'm staying here to help you fight Kazak.'

'Scout Patrol One to Spearhead - We've completed a wide area sweep of the valley but it's a negative on detection.'

'Suffering Supernovas!'

'Regroup and return to the Spearhead. It will be getting dark soon.'

'Could Kazak have taken him Captain?'

'I suppose it's possible... We've already gotten way too involved in local affairs!'

'We need to stay focused on finding a way back to Zonia...'

'...but we're not giving up on finding Jaseman.'

'It's okay they've gone. You can come out now.'

'I haven't eaten all day.'

'I can find some mushrooms and make a soup - just like my Grandmother used to make, and for dessert - an assortment of fruits.'

'That sounds amazing! Just don't go too far.'

'How can a robot have a Grandmother?'

'You don't know?'

'Zonia is a long way from here - I know very little about Robus.'

'I will tell you all about it when I get back.'

'I look forward to that. I will work on making this place a little friendlier whilst you find supper. See you soon!'

Jaseman used the transformat to create 'The Chasm of Binary'.

'How can we get across this Chasm Master Jaseman?'

'You use these levers to convert the Hexadecimal number that is displayed here into a binary octet.'

'If you set the levers correctly the bridge will extend across the Chasm.'

''You did it!'

'How deep is this Chasm Master?'

'256 bricks deep - one for every possible combination of 8-bit binary.'

'What's at the bottom?'

'You could say there's zero down there!'

'Some people of planet Commercia became very rich - but they still couldn't live forever...'

'They bought robots and bestowed them their own memories and personalities so that they may be remembered by their families after death.'

'But after a time Commercia became overwhelmed by these robots - so they took them all to another planet which became known as Robus.'

'In the summertime, the families would bring the children on holiday to Robus to meet the robots and play together in the jungle...'

'Until one day Kazak arrived with his army and the dark times began.'

'What happened to the banana?'

'Ummm... It's possible I may have accidentally dropped it into the Chasm of Binary, Master.'
